Umar promises more goals
National Under-23 team forward Sadiq Umar says he is determined to increase his goal tally during Wednesday night’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games men’s football final group game against Colombia in Sao Paulo.
The Roma striker, who was on target in the 5-4 defeat of Japan, fired his second goal of the tournament against Sweden to help Nigeria reach the quarterfinals on Sunday.
“I have played with some fear in my first two games because I am playing for the national team for the first time, but all that has now gone and I believe I can score more goals at this tournament,” the 19-year-old was quoted by AfricanFootball.com as saying on Tuesday.
The gangly striker will again hope to get a few more goals past Colombia goalkeeper Cristian Bonilla, who was once a striker.
The 23-year-old Bonilla made his international debut at the 2009 Under-17 World Cup hosted by Nigeria before featuring at two Under-20 World Cups in 2011 and 2013.
He has already been compared with Colombia’s No.1 Oscar Cordoba.
The game is a must-win for Colombia if they want to advance to the next round of the tournament.
